We exist for one simple reason: to be the backup for the people who are always on the front lines.

First responders spend their lives running toward disasters and challenging situations while others are running away. But while they are focused on keeping our communities safe, life doesn’t stop at home. Whether it’s the aftermath of a natural disaster, a sudden financial hurdle, or the heavy emotional toll of the job, these challenges hit first responders and their families just as hard as anyone else.

Asking for help is never easy, especially for people accustomed to providing it. We believe no one who carries the weight of public safety should have to carry their own personal burdens alone. We aren’t here to offer "charity," we’re here to provide the extra set of hands, the resources, and the community support needed to make sure our heroes and their families are taken care of at home, so they can keep serving in the field.

Following the devastation of Hurricane Ian in September 2022, the Sanibel Lighthouse remains a beacon of hope, resilience, compassion, and community strength.

Our Story

First Responders First, Inc. was born from a moment of shared frustration and a clear realization.

In the wake of Hurricane Ian in late September 2022, a friend’s home was completely destroyed and was uninhabitable. Her husband, an officer with the Fort Myers Police Department, didn’t have the luxury of staying behind to tarp the roof or clear debris, he was called into active duty immediately to help the rest of the community. It’s the reality of the job: when the community is in crisis, the first responder’s family often has to face that same crisis without them.

Seeing a spouse trying to manage a damaged home and a stressed family alone while their partner worked around the clock felt like a gap that needed closing. It didn't take a miracle to help them; it just took a few extra hands and a day of hard work to get their home stable again.

First Responders First, Inc. was created to be a dedicated support system that steps in to help with the home front challenges that arise. Whether the need is financial relief, a temporary place to stay, or mental health support, we make sure that while they are looking out for the community, someone is looking out for them.

The mission of First Responders First, Inc. is to stand beside our first responders and their families by providing meaningful support through every challenge they face. We offer temporary financial support to first responders who have endured significant financial hardship due to a traumatic loss, devastating event, or tragic circumstances. We are committed to ensuring that those who sacrifice so much for their communities never face their struggles alone.

We are a group of dedicated individuals who believe that those who protect our community shouldn't have to navigate a crisis alone. Our leadership is focused on transparency, heart, and, most importantly, providing practical solutions for first responders when they need a hand.
